1. The production process.

All steel silo components are produced in the factory, so the quality as well as cost can be fully controlled, while cast-in-place concrete silos involve more variables, such as the delivery of concrete and construction weather.

2. Design.

Concrete construction of skids is more complicated due to the longer construction time. Rebar placement, concrete quality, etc. all affect the final product. In addition, site supervision plays a very important role during the construction of concrete silos: the more workers on site, the longer the commissioning time (due to weather conditions) and the higher the final cost.
Compared with concrete silos, the construction of steel silos is particularly excellent, and accessories such as doors, ladders, and dust removal equipment can also be installed.
Steel structures are more flexible, so steel silos have better performance during earthquakes.

Steel silos can usually provide a more cost-effective price based on storage capacity, which can both reduce costs and expand storage capacity. The higher the storage capacity, the more cost-effective they tend to be.
3. Ventilation.

It is easier and more efficient to perform recirculation ventilation in steel silos. It is often impossible or impractical to provide the same airflow in tall and short concrete silos, which can be obtained in shorter and wider silos (in the case of steel silos). Higher particle depths also lead to higher heat of compression in the aeration system. This means that lower outside temperatures are required to achieve the same grain temperature, making early aeration more difficult.

4. Basics.

Steel silos do not need to rely too much on the solidity of the soil to support the weight of the structure. Sometimes steel silos can be constructed on land that does not have the higher load-bearing capacity required of concrete.
